THOUSANDS of fruit and veg fans will flock to a major celebration of plant-based food taking place at the weekend.

But many will be disappointed to learn that Vegfest will not go ahead in Brighton in 2020.

Organisers have axed next year’s show so they can focus on other projects in London.

They say they will be too busy to hold the popular festival at the Brighton Centre next March.

But organisers hope to bring the event back in 2021.

The popular two-day show has been held every spring in the city since 2009, regularly attracting crowds of up to 12,000.

And this weekend’s event will be going ahead as planned with a packed programme of events.

More than 200 stalls are booked, with 12 areas of talks and cookery demonstrations.

Bosses at VegfestUK also organise the UK’s biggest vegan event in London every October.

And they have just launched a major new London show – Plant Powered Expo – set to take place in early February.

A spokesman said: “We’re sad to be missing a year for what has become our favourite event, and already have a date pencilled in for early summer 2021 at the Brighton Centre for our return.

“However we are very busy with our new show Plant Powered Expo, as well as our annual event VegfestUK London, which is growing year on year.

“The high expectations at Olympia London require a full-time focus, attention and resources for these two shows in 2019 and 2020.

“We love Brighton, we’ve been bringing the event here for 11 years running, and we very much hope that our return in 2021 will see a revitalised event, with plenty of new additions for the ever-swelling crowd of vegans and plant-based dieters in Brighton.”

Tickets are available online in advance at brighton.vegfest.co.uk or on the gate.
