A BOMB squad were called after reports of a shell found near a road.
Ditchling Road in Brighton was closed off after reports of a bomb being found yesterday evening.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “Police attended Ditchling Road, Brighton, at 5.35pm to reports of a shell being discovered.
“A 50 meter cordon was put in place and the Explosive Ordance Disposal unit were informed.
“The EOD attended the scene around 7pm and confirmed the item was a smoke shell.”
The road has since been reopened.
