THERE have been a total of 2,210 acts of vandalism in the city’s public toilets since 2017.

In that year there were 643 incidents which cost £8,200 to fix.

Last year this nearly doubled to 1,253 incidents, costing £14,605.

So far this year, there have been 314 events, costing £6,448.

And cleaners are facing an uphill struggle to repair toilets which are often vandalised within hours of being fixed.

This is the shocking catalogue of vandalism between January 5, 2017, and Tuesday this week:

l Broken locks, padlocks, glued locks (848)

l Toilets ripped off the floor (30)

l Needles/drugs paraphernalia, blood, overdose victim, homeless sleepers (177)

l Fire (8)

l Broken taps, toilet lids ripped off, pulled loose, hit/smashed taps (414)

l Broken flush mechanisms (73)

l Broken toilet seats, hand dryers smashed (204)

l Blockages caused by towels and other unsuitable items (92)

l Graffiti (21)

l Doors kicked in/damaged (15)

l Pipes ripped off walls (15)

l Toilet bowls smashed/ripped off foundations (20)

l Soap dispensers/toilet roll holders ripped off walls/smashed (196)

l Human waste smeared on walls/floors, bins overturned, toilet paper strewn around (40)

l Cisterns ripped off walls (16)

l Smashed lights (34)

l Break in/money stolen (7).

The toilets are cleaned and maintained by Healthmatic.

There are more than 50 public toilets in Brighton and Hove.

Among the worst affected by vandalism and drug-taking are those in the Pavilion Gardens and at The Level.
