DAN BURN has warned Albion to treat Derby like Premier League opponents in his FA Cup role reversal.

Burn was part of the Wigan side in League One that stunned Manchester City in the fifth round last year.

Now the ball is on the other foot as the giant central defender tries to help the Seagulls through the same stage against Championship opposition for the second round running tomorrow at the Amex following his first appearances for the club in the previous round against West Brom.

Burn said: “It’s a different type of mentality. When you’re the underdogs it’s easy to get up for the game because there’s not a lot of pressure on you and you’re expected to get beat. Anything you get out of the game is positive for you.

“When you’re a Premier League team you’ll see a lot of teams go out. I’m not saying every Premier League team will do this but you can sort of relax a little bit and think you’re going to go through.

“It’s about having that same mentality that we take into Premier League games.”

A maximum of six Premier League clubs and only two of the top six will reach the quarter-finals, with Chelsea hosting Manchester United on Monday.

Burn said: “We were all sat in a pre-match meal when the last draw was made and it’s a chance.

“No disrespect to Derby, they’re flying in the Championship but there was a lot tougher rounds we could have had.

“It’s a great chance, not only for the lads who haven’t been playing regularly but a chance for the team as a whole to go for it in the cup and you never know what can happen.

“We’re in the fifth round now and there’s not many rounds until you’re getting close to the semi-finals and the final.”
