Salinas firefighters contained a vegetation fire that burned about an acre Monday evening.

Firefighters were called out just before 7 p.m. to the area of N. Sanborn Road and E. Laurel Drive after receiving reports of a fire, said Keith Emery, acting battalion chief with the Salinas Fire Department.

They arrived to find grass, brush and other vegetation on fire across about a half to three-quarters of an acre in a drainage area, he said.

No one was hurt and no structures were threatened, Emery said.

Firefighters quickly surrounded the fire, which grew to about an acre total, he said. The fire was quickly contained and died out as firefighters monitored it, he said.

The cause is under investigation, Emery said.
