FBI offering $10K reward for ‘Inconvenient Crook’

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crimes Task Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual allegedly responsible for at least seven robberies and two attempted robberies at gas stations around the greater Boston area — including one in Canton — from August 2018 through March 2019.

The male suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous and who the FBI has dubbed “The Inconvenient Crook,” is believed to be in his 20s to 30s. In each robbery, he wore dark-colored clothing and a face covering, and in some of the robberies he walked with a distinctive limp.

During each of the robberies, according to the FBI, the suspect approached the cashiers and demanded money. On seven occasions he brandished a firearm, and on two occasions he threatened to shoot the cashiers. While demanding money at one of the stores, he allegedly told the clerk that he had “child support to pay,” and during another robbery he allegedly told the cashier that he needed diapers.

The Canton robbery occurred at 9:26 p.m. on October 5, 2018, at the Mobil Gas Station at 2776 Washington Street (Route 138), near Royall Street. Brandishing a black-colored handgun upon entering the store, the suspect approached the cashier, demanded money, and allegedly “racked” the slide on the firearm.

Also on October 5, approximately 45 minutes after the Canton robbery, a man who authorities believe to be the same suspect followed a cashier into the Mobil Gas Station/Dunkin at 372 Washington Street in Stoughton, where he allegedly demanded money and threatened to shoot the cashier. The clerk during that incident reported hearing a “clicking sound” while the suspect’s hands were inside his jacket pockets.

In addition to the two October 5 robberies, the same suspect is also wanted for two robberies in Randolph — October 7 at Prime Gas Station on Union Street and November 5 at TNT Gas Station on North Main Street — as well as two others in Hyde Park, both at the Mobil station on Neponset Valley Parkway (Aug. 30 and Sept. 25), and one at the W&G Express Gas Station on American Legion Highway in Roslindale (Jan. 18).

The suspect is also wanted for a pair of attempted robberies in Hyde Park — once on October 8 at the Rogers Service Gas Station on Neponset Valley Parkway and most recently at the Mobil station on Neponset Valley Parkway on March 29. In both of the attempted robberies, the suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money but fled the scene without any cash.

The FBI is offering a monetary reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of this individual. Photos and surveillance video footage of the suspect can be found at www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/unknown-suspect—commercial-robberies.

“We need to put a stop to this man’s crime spree before someone gets hurt,” said Joseph Bonavolonta, special agent in charge of the FBI Boston Division. “He’s armed, he’s dangerous, and his actions in each of the robberies were brazen. We’re asking the public to take a close look at these photos and video and to contact us if you know who he is.”
