Minnesota Basketball Recruiting: Bryan Greenlee commits to the Gophers

Minnesota added another member to its 2019 class. Bryan Greenlee of the Rock School in Florida committed to Minnesota. Greenlee is a high school prospect, which means Minnesota will only have three available scholarships for the 2020 class barring any transfers.

Greenlee is unranked by most services, which is unsurprising at this stage of spring recruiting. His best offer was Iowa last year, but they chose to go in a different direction when Joe Touissant committed.

Based on highlight films, the best way to determine a player’s skill, Greenlee shows decent form on outside shooting and likes to attack the paint. As the likely backup ball handler, this is not a bad skillset, particularly if he is willing to play defense. On the other hand, it is a bit of a curious decision to use a scholarship on a high school player this late in the recruiting process instead of banking the scholarship for next year. The Gophers are after a loaded 2020 recruiting class, both in and out of state. If one is inclined to trust the coaching staff, the read should be that they filled a position of need with a player they think is greatly under-appreciated. If one is not, they are wasting a scholarship on a depth player.
