Fire chief: Teamwork prevents major blaze at Salem campground
Salem — Ten fire companies worked together late Wednesday to stop a fire in a semi-permanent camper from spreading to the rest of Indianfield Campground, Gardner Lake volunteer fire Chief James Savalle said.
Flames had engulfed the camper when companies arrived at the 306 Old Colchester Road site just after 11 p.m. Firefighters were on scene into Thursday cleaning up the mess.
The fire reduced the camper to a pile of twisted metal debris but didn’t affect any other structures. Savalle said no people or animals were injured.
Firefighters from the Bozrah, Colchester, East Great Plains, Lebanon, Lyme, Montville, Mohegan Tribal, Oakdale, Salem and Yantic companies responded.
The town fire marshal’s office is investigating.
