Roughriders ready for Fargo Post 2 on Sunday night after run ruling Billings again

For the third time in less than 24 hours, the Dickinson Roughriders run ruled the Billings Expos taking them down 10-0 in five innings.

After the Expos pulled starter Ethan Peterson from the mound after four innings of work, their bullpen couldn’t find the strike zone resulting in the win for the Roughriders.

Dickinson sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored seven runs.

“We got to their starter. He did a nice job,” Tyler Frenzel, Roughriders head coach said. ”Once we got to their bullpen, they didn’t have much left and we took it from there.”

In the fifth frame, Carson Weiler walked then eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0.

Caleb Staudinger struck out two batters in a row before walking the bases loaded.

He was pulled and Paul Tevlin walked in Landon Aman and hit Chase Henderson with a pitch to score Cam Christensen.

Troy Berg then drove in two runs to extend the lead to 8-0 and Weiler drove in another before a wild pitch scored Berg to end the contest.

Drew Kovash earned the win on the mound after pitching four innings and giving up only one hit.

“I just did my best to throw strikes and make my defense make plays behind me,” he said.

Kovash also said that a performance like this builds confidence if his number is called on later in the season.

Several non starters played for the Roughriders but they got the job done as Tyler White plated Aman in the second inning to get the scoring started.

Nathan Jilek recorded a RBI to score Henderson in the bottom of the third and Riley Odonnell drove a ball to center field to score Berg making the score 3-0.

Berg went 2-4 in the batter's box with two RBI and two runs scored, and he also pitched the fifth inning of the contest.

Weiler also recorded two hits and stole three of the team's 10 stolen bases.

The Roughriders host their first divisional games of the season on Sunday at 5:30 and 7:30 against Fargo Post 2.

They won the state tournament and the Central Plains Regional Tournament last summer advancing to the Legion World Series.

“We have to be ready to go tomorrow. We are playing good baseball right now,” Frenzel said. “Fargo is always tough.”

Nick Deschamp will start game one on the mound tomorrow night, and either Reese Mack or Landon Aman will start game two.
