But it’s Jordan Henderson who lifts the Super Cup for Liverpool. Another trophy for them. They’re making a habit out of it under Jurgen Klopp. That’s all from me tonight. Thanks for reading and emailing. Bye!

Frank Lampard looks miffed. He doesn’t like losing. Still, he probably won’t emulate Jose Mourinho, who sent Romelu Lukaku on loan to Everton after the Belgian missed the crucial penalty against Bayern Munich in the 2013 Super Cup, and banish Tammy Abraham after his miss. This was an improvement from Chelsea after their defeat to Manchester United. Lampard can feel optimistic before Sunday’s home game against Leicester.

Adrian speaks! “Welcome to Liverpool. It was a crazy week. I am happy for the team. I am happy to get a trophy. I am really happy for the fans. It was a long game but in the end it was a great finish for us. To be fair I tried to stop when I saw him. The striker is so intelligent. I touched him with the penalty but he was looking for that. I told the referee I tried to stop but it doesn’t matter. We got the title and have to enjoy tonight.”

Liverpool win the Super Cup on penalties!

ET 23 min: Mount stings Adrian’s palms from the edge of the area after being teed up by Abraham. Then Pedro slides a shot inches wide from 20 yards.

ET 16 min: Chelsea get us underway again. And another look at that penalty would suggest that Abraham made the most of very little contact. Many people will be asking why VAR didn’t change the decison.

ET 11 min: Ross Barkley replaces Mateo Kovacic. By the way that foul was so Adrian. He was capable of some extremely hare-brained decisions at West Ham.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea (Jorginho pen, 101 min)

Oh, that is sublime. Jorginho takes a casual run-up, sits Adrian down and rolls the ball into the left corner. Classic Jorginho. Chelsea are level.

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!

ET 9 min: Pedro forces a ball into the middle from the right, Abraham refuses to give it up and he knocks it past Adrian, who sends him sprawling with a rash and needless challenge! VAR checks it, but the decision stands.

ET 8 min: Chelsea look to hit back, Abraham bustling behind the Liverpool defence, but Van Dijk leans into the striker and makes sure he can’t push the ball past Adrian, who makes the save.

Played onside by Kurt Zouma, Roberto Firmino breaks clear down the left. He waits for support, bides his time, picks the right moment and cuts the ball back to Sadio Mane, who opens up his body and sidefoots a brilliant rising finish past Kepa for his second of the night.

ET 2 min: Joe “Roberto Carlos” Gomez charges forward from left-back, cuts inside and sees a deflected shot saved by Kepa.

ET 1 min: Liverpool get extra-time underway. They’ve brought on Trent Alexander-Arnold for Andy Robertson. Joe Gomez is at left-back now.
