Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has decided to contest in eight Lok Sabha and 24 Assembly seats in Odisha during the election.State secretariat member of SUCI(C), Bishnu Das criticised Left parties like CPI(M) and CPI for joining hands with the Congress in Odisha.

“BJP has continued the anti-people policies of previous Congress governments at the Centre and economic policies of both parties are not different from each other,” he alleged.

According to Mr Das, on January 10 their party had written to all major left parties in Odisha to unite and contest the polls to provide an alternative to the voters. “But none of them showed any interest,” he added.

SUCI (C) has decided to contest in Berhampur, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Sundergarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal Lok Sabha constituencies. It would also field its candidates in 24 chosen assembly constituencies in different districts of the State. These assembly seats include Hinjli in Ganjam district, represented by BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

When asked about the possible split in left parties votes, Mr Das said, in very few places their candidates would clash with representatives of mainstream left parties. “At the places where we’ll have to contest them, we will fight the elections with the aim to make voters aware about real socialistic ideologies”, he said.
