AAP candidate from West Delhi files papers

33 more people file nominations

Aam Aadmi Party nominee Balbir Singh Jakhar on Thursday filed his nomination for the West Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency.

Apart from him, 33 other people filed their nominations on Thursday for Delhi’s seven seats.

In his affidavit, Mr. Balbir declared a total income of ₹9,78,458, movable assets worth ₹1,23,76,621 and immovable assets worth ₹1,22,50,000.

His nomination papers were, however, found incomplete and a notice in this regard was sent to him by the West Delhi Returning Officer. He said there was some confusion in the arrangement of the columns in the income section of the affidavit and he would be refilling the particular section on April 22.

Covering candidate

AAP has also put up nomination papers for one Vikram Singh Jakhar, said a senior election official, adding that he was “covering candidate” for the party in case Mr. Balbir’s papers are not accepted.

Mr. Vikram’s affidavit was unavailable on the ECI’s website along with affidavits of four other candidates in the New Delhi constituency as of Thursday evening.

However, before the nominations, AAP took out a roadshow in which hundreds of workers and senior leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai took part.

The Bahujan Samaj Party also filed nomination papers for its candidate Ranveer Singh in North East Delhi. Mr. Singh declared a total income of ₹1,32,10,660, the highest income among all those who have filled nominations in Delhi so far.

Currently, the total number of nominations so far stands at 48. Among this, AAP candidate and the BSP candidate have been filed twice.

Apart from AAP and the BSP, 12 people running as Independents, while the rest are from lesser-known parties, some of which include Republican Party of India (A), Aapki Apni Party, Proutist Party of India, Pyramid Party of India and Social Unity Centre of India (Communist) among others.

Among those whose affidavits were available, there are 10 people engaged in business, three pensioners, three advocates, four social workers, two real estate agents, two journalists, a driver, a meditation instructor, a farmer and people from other professions.

Fifteen of the nominees are either Class X pass or below.
