The much-awaited meeting of the Chief Secretaries of the two Telugu States on issues arising out of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, has seen positive response from the two States.
The two Chief Secretaries — S.K. Joshi from Telangana and L.V. Subrahmanyam of Andhra Pradesh — attended the meeting convened by the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting assumes significance as several meetings convened by the Union Ministry since almost 10 months had to be postponed with either of the States expressing their inability to attend the meetings.
The close to three-hour meeting saw the two States making presentations in support of their claims, particularly related to the division of Schedule IX and X institutions. The Union Home Ministry, according to sources, sought the steps taken by the two governments to resolve the stalemate on the 91 issues that cropped up subsequent to reorganisation of the State. The two governments accordingly submitted their version of the affirmative actions initiated in this direction.
Proactive steps
The AP government is understood to have circulated the copies of the orders issued in respect of 42 pending issues to Telangana and the Union Home Ministry. The TS delegation responded by submitting a list of 60 issues on which proactive steps had been taken by it to the meeting. “The meeting was convened by the Union Ministry to hear the views of the two States. They have heard our stand point on the pending issues and taken note of them,” a senior official who attended the meeting told The Hindu .
Officials are hopeful that convening of similar meetings would help in resolving the pending issues soon as the two States have now adopted a “give and take approach” ever since the new government took over the reins in Andhra Pradesh.
