A delegation led by V. Sunil Kumar, Karkala MLA, and K. Raghupati Bhat, Udupi MLA, is in Gujarat to study sand removal in non-Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) there.

In a press release here on Monday, Mr. Bhat said that the delegation had a detailed discussion with officers of Gujarat in Ahmedabad on the matter. It discussed the issue with the Commissioner of Mines Department of Gujarat Arun Kumar Solanki and other officers of that State. Mr. Bhat said there were a lot of opportunities to remove sand in Gujarat. The team would study the rules and policies followed in Gujarat and submit a detailed report to the State government.

Senior officers from the State including Shivashankar Reddy and Ram Nayak were part of the delegation. Its intention was to replicate the sand policy being followed in Gujarat in the State.
