General Manager, Southern Railway, R.K. Kulshrestha, has asked the construction wing of railways to expedite work on the coaching terminal at Nemom.

Reviewing the progress of the coaching terminal works at Nemom the other day, he also asked the officials to approach the State government so that the land required for the terminal could be taken over on priority basis.

Preliminary works like rebuilding the overbridges which should be completed ahead of the main work of the coaching terminal should be expedited, Mr. Kulshrestha said, adding that this would further reduce the completion period.

He also carried out a surprise inspection of the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station around 9.30 p.m. Catering units in the station needed more space for functioning and officials were asked to take immediate action in this regard.

He also noted that the space provided for On-Board Housekeeping Staff and their equipment was inadequate.

General Manager observed that the frontage of the station needed development. Facade lighting could be improved and a garden would create a pleasing ambience, he added. He also asked the officials to give a fresh coat of paint to the landmark station building.

He noted that the parking space for vehicles on the station premises should be further developed by black topping the surface and making necessary improvements.
