The Centre should cancel the decision to privatise six non-metro airports, including Thiruvananthapuram international airport, in view the reports that the directive of the Union Finance Ministry was ignored in floating tenders, KPCC president, Mullappally Ramachandran, has said.
The KPCC president said he had already emailed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to cancel the airport privatisation move.
Directive to MPs
The UDF MPs from Kerala has been asked to take up the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday as the Thiruvananthapuram international airport had not been awarded to the Adani Group that has emerged as the highest bidder.
Mr. Ramachandran, in a statement here, said the LDF government in Kerala was also playing to the tune of the Adani Group and was taking the people for a ride in the case of the privatisation of the premier airport of the State. The Finance Ministry’s directive that only a maximum of two non-metro airports should be given to a bidder and that international experience of handling the airport operations was needed were ignored when the bids were floated.
The KPCC president said the Centre has commenced steps to privatise other profitable airports like the one in Karipur. The State government had failed in checking the move to privatise Thiruvananthapuram airport, he added.
