Work to install the 130-metre truss for the Navi Mumbai Metro over the Panvel-Diva railway line was completed on Sunday. The work was carried out during five megablocks of a total 15 hours since December 2018, the longest being a seven-hour block on February 10.
The truss, which was assembled on a temporary framework, was shifted part by part with a winch and pulley. Sanjay Nadgauda, superintendent engineer, CIDCO, said, “We will now lower one end to get the perfect turn. The ends will have a difference of 1.8 metre in height.”
Work to lower the truss will start next week, depending on when Central Railway gives CIDCO permission to schedule another megablock. The truss will be lowered in stages using jacks. “After that a concrete slab will be put over it, and then the tracks will be laid,” Mr. Nadgauda said.
