Meaningful films foster a progressive society: V-C

Pondicherry varsity’s 3-day film fête ended on Sunday

The 8th Puducherry International Documentary and Short Film Festival, hosted by the Department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication, Pondicherry University, concluded on Sunday.

The event was organised in collaboration with Films Division, Mumbai and Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association.

To the delight of the delegates, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gurmeet Singh chose to open the three-day fête by playing the thavil , an Indian percussion instrument.

Art of filmmaking

Later, addressing the gathering, Prof. Singh noted that a good film made with sincerity could work wonders.

He urged students to learn the art of filmmaking and also make films with social messages, as meaningful films can foster a progressive society.

Accomplished film director Deepa Dhanraj, Honorary president of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association Tamilselvan, Gopi Nainar, Director of the film Aram , were among those who participated.

The festival screened international, national and regional short films and documentaries that dealt with a range of subjects.
