Sichuan University, China, has mooted a memorandum of understanding on academic and research collaboration with the Pondicherry University.
This follows a recent discussion on inter-collegiate cooperation in research, teaching and other academic exchange between India and China hosted by the Unesco Madanjeet Singh Institute of South Asia Regional Cooperation (UMISARC), Pondicherry University.
Yang Wenwu, Deputy Director of the Institute of South Asian Studies, Sichuan University, China, in his address, briefed the participants on the Sichuan University.
He proposed signing an MoU between Pondicherry University and Sichuan University, introducing the student participation in short-term semester programme in China, exchanging books and materials and providing opportunities to scholars in participating in research conferences.
He also requested the Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh to send a delegation to Sichuan University.
Mr. Gurmeet Singh stressed on the importance of having a quality collaboration with foreign academic institutes.
D. Purushothaman , head of UMISARC, highlighted the importance of collaboration between India and China and the value of regional cooperation.

Later, during the interactive session, Prof. Wenwu and associate professor Zeng Xiangyu responded to questions from students about the criteria of doing master programmes in China, the involvement of other South Asian countries in exchange programmes and other issues regarding exchange programmes.
