S. Lakshminarsimhan, a Sanskrit scholar, was among those honoured for his contribution in the field of Indology at a recent function hosted by the Pondicherry University.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh felicitated the scholar during ‘The Search for Soul of Poetry’, a two-day national seminar held recently by the Department of Sanskrit, Pondicherry University, a press note said.

The V-C also felicitated C.S. Radhakrishnan, Professor of Sanskrit at Pondicherry University, during the event.

Inaugurating the event, Prof. Singh hailed the contributions of Sanskrit scholars and also stressed the modern significance of scientific structure of the Sanskrit language, especially its blend of ethics and humanity. P.C. Muraleemadhavan, a President Awardee and former Head of Department of Sahitya, Sri Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kerala, in his key note elaborated on the post-modern dimensions of linguistic theories of Sanskrit aesthetics, which would help “fill the gap between the East and West”.

Kaushalendra Pandey, Head of Sahitya, Banares Hindu University, noted that Sanskrit aesthetics “discourses the model of getting aesthetic pleasure, free from all the bondages”. Anil Pratap Giri, assistant professor, Prof. Chakadhar Behera, faculty, J. Krishnan, Head of Department and K.E.Dharaneedhara, faculty also participated.

The event was attended by delegates from across the country, faculty and heads of department.
