The Office of Students’ Welfare, Pondicherry University, organised a three-day Student Induction Programme (SIP) as per UGC Quality Mandate for newly admitted integrated course students recently.
The programme was for the first-year integrated course students from three schools comprising nine departments. A. Shahin Sultana, SIP coordinator and Dean of Students Welfare, said dissemination of information about the various aspects of the university, sensitisation of various committees for students’ welfare, session on human values and events combined with fun, sports and cultural performances were the objectives of the programme.
It would also identify skills and talents to be utilised for upcoming programmes in the days to come, a press note said. Pondicherry University is one of the central universities to have participated in the Training Of Teachers programme and facilitated the SIP on campus.
Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh underscored why he thought SIP was necessary for incoming students from schools. It was the more important to organise the interface early into admission.
S. Balakrishnan, director, Directorate of Studies, Educational Innovations and Rural Reconstruction , B. Chitra, Registrar (i/c), Amaresh Samantaraya, finance officer (i/c) and R. Samyuktha, librarian, also spoke at the event.
