Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah has said that the party will not withdraw the petition submitted to Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar seeking disqualification of four disgruntled MLAs.
Addressing presspersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of Kittur Rani Chennamma community hall here on Sunday, he said it was left to the discretion of the Speaker to take a call on the action against the four MLAs based on the petition.
“The Congress has already submitted the petition and it will not withdraw it. The Speaker will now take suitable action against the MLAs,” he said.
Defending the government’s decision to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the controversial audio clip released by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Siddaramaiah said even he had suggested setting up an SIT to ensure a fair probe.
Referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s opposition for a SIT probe, he said the party was opposing the move for political reasons.
