Ramanathapuram Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Sivaganga Collector J. Jayakanthan launched the Deepavali special discount sale in the retail outlets of Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society, popularly known as Co-optex, on Monday and appealed to the people to extend their patronage to handloom products.
After inaugurating the discount sale in retails outlets in the two districts, the Collectors said Co-optex offered special 30% discount on all its handloom products on the occasion of the ensuing Deepavali and Pongal festivals and called upon the people to purchase handloom products and support the handloom weavers.
“This year, Co-optex has introduced a wide range of attractive colourful products and the special discount sales will be available till January 31 next year,” they said. Like last year, this year too, Co-optex has come out with linen, cotton and organic cotton saris, using natural dyes and colours, they said.
Co-optex has introduced new designs in silk saris and traditional saris such as Sungudi, Chettinad cotton and Kandangi saris with attractive price tags. Co-optex has also showcased a range of cotton and linen shirts and a wide range of modern outfits and chudidhar materials to cater to the younger generation. The retail outlet in Ramanathapuram had sold handloom products worth Rs. 70.91 lakh during the festival season last year and a sales target of Rs. 85 lakh has been fixed for this year, Mr. Rao said. The retail outlet in Paramakudi had sold products worth Rs. 30 lakh last year and sales target of Rs. 37 has been fixed for this festive season, he added.
In Sivaganga, Collector J. Jayakanthan launched the special discount sale at Co-optex retail outlet at Gandhi Road. He said three retail outlets in the district had achieved total sales of Rs. 131.55 lakh last year. This year, total sales target of Rs. 184 lakh – Rs. 85 lakh for Sivaganga, Rs. 75 for Karaikudi and Rs. 24 lakh for Tirupattur has been fixed, he said.
Co-optex Managers M. Palanisamy (government scheme), K. Selvaraj (design and production) and Sales managers K. Pandiammal (Ramanathapuram) and Mullaikodi (Sivaganga) were among others present on the occasion.
