Even before the final numbers are officially released, Gujarat erupted into celebrations with Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) easily moving towards a clean sweep in the State, yet again after 2014. Various groups hailed 'Son of Soil', Narendra Modi, retaining power for the second term in office.

The saffron party has so far secured 62 per cent vote share higher than 59 per cent recorded in 2014, while the Opposition Congress could manage to retain 33 per cent vote share as in 2014, however, the counting of votes continued.

State BJP headquarters Shri Kamalam at Gandhinagar was flooded with supporters and Party leaders in celebratory mood. Sweets were distributed even as the joyful crowd started playing garba to the tunes of band outside the campus. By noon, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and State BJP Unit chief Jitu Vaghani arrived at Kamalam and greeted the crowd.

The revelry gripped the city of Ahmedabad and other towns across the State, where BJP supporters and industry bodies set up special LED screens for the live screening of the counting along with snacks and sweets as a mark of celebration.

"This is the endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rule and governance. There was an apprehension about next Prime Minister of the country. But People have shown trust and confidence in the leadership of Narendra Modi. No strata of the society is dismayed by the State or Central governments. This is a victory of the people of Gujarat and India," Rupani said addressing media at Kamalam.

The wave was evident with BJP clearly heading for a clean sweep across the State with notable margins on all the 26 seats. Among the big wins for BJP will be Gandhinagar, from where the Party National President Amit Shah is making his debut to the Lok Sabha. Shah is leading with a margin of more than 5 lakh votes over Congress' CJ Chavda, highest margin in the State so far. Shah surpassed vote margin of former Prime Minister L K Advani, who had won with a margin of 4.8 lakh votes in 2014.

Earlier in the day Hiraba, mother of Prime Minister Modi greeted a crowd gathered outside her residence in Gandhinagar and thanked them for their support to the Party.

The Congress whitewash is likely to be repeated as its top leaders including former Union Minister

Bharatsinh Solanki and Paresh Dhanani, leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly, trailing by 2.15 lakh votes and 1.4 lakh votes respectively.

The state voted in the third phase on April 23 with voter turnout of around 64.11 per cent, a tad higher than previous Lok Sabha polls.
