In the backdrop of rising fuel prices, falling freight rates and shortage of drivers, the event assumes significance and provides a platform to discuss these issues.

Nearly one crore trucks criss-cross the country carrying goods, including essential commodities, fruits and vegetables. Any disruption in their operations can cripple the economy. With a strong steel industry and thousands of trucks plying in and out of Jamshedpur every day, it is only fitting to hold the event in the city.

The first in the series of 10 Transporters Meets was held in June at Namakkal, the hub of the trucking industry in Tamil Nadu, followed by the second in the port city of Kochi in July. The third was held in Vijayawada in August. The fourth and fifth editions were held in September in Hyderabad and Pune respectively, and the last one at Jaipur last month. Over 100 representatives, including truck owners, drivers and industry associations participated in each event.

Presentations apart, the seventh edition in Jamshedpur will see a panel discussion on the ‘Road Ahead’ for the transport sector.

The panelists are: Akhilesh Singh Yadav, President, Jamshedpur Transport Welfare Association; Kulwinder Singh Pannu, President, Jamshedpur Truck & Trailer Owners Welfare Association, Shyamal Debnath, Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager, Ranchi Divisional Office, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bhaskar Bhatnagar, Regional Business Leader - Commercial Vehicle Loans, YES Bank.
