Gujarat, Kerala, and Chandigarh have emerged out to be the toppers of the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s first-ever Performance Grading Index of School Education System, which was adjudged on the basis of over 70 different parameters. It was found that Gujarat, Kerala, and Chandigarh topped by scoring in the range between 801 to 850 points out of 1000.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu were followed with scores ranging between 751-800 points. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, HP, Karnataka, MP, Odisha, and Uttarakhand scored between 700-750 points. Daman and Diu and Maharashtra, Mizoram, Puducherry, Sikkim, and Telangana came after them. Bihar, Jharkhand, J&K, Manipur, Tripura, UP, West Bengal, Lakshadweep and Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands scored between 601-650 points.

Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland came last with points ranging between 551-600.

The HRD Ministry informed that the Index was conducted to determine the few key aspects considered under the school education system.

“During PM Modi’s reviews of school education, several decisions to improve the quality of learning, assessing the performance of states and Union Territories were taken. The ministry is also exploring ways of linking funding to bringing about improvement. In this background, the school education department decided to prepare a performance grading index to assess how the states were doing,” another official said.

The index was calculated on the basis of the data regarding the information attained by public and private schools from the respective states. The report presented by the were utilized to determine the quality of education imparted across the country.
