INDIANAPOLIS — The City of Indianapolis was awarded an almost $1 million grant to help improve recidivism and break down employment barriers.

The Office of Public Health and Safety was awarded the grant to help people transition back into the community after being in jail.

Over three years, the city hopes the grant will help provide vocational training, literacy and educational resources to help to help them get a job.

The grant was given to the city from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Community Solutions Inc., OPHS, and the American Institute for Research will work together to analyze the re-entry system in the county and find ways to lower recidivism, rates.

“An exciting part of this initiative is our ability to collaborate with small businesses on the front end – particularly minority-owned businesses like Rhodes Trucking, Bibbs Trucking, and BUILD/Turner Housing who will complete training and assist with job placement,” Carlette Duffy, a project manager for OPHS, said in a press release.
