HENDRICKS COUNTY — It's been seven weeks since Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dean Maar was shot to death during a home invasion-robbery at his Hendricks County cabin.

Police are tight-lipped about their investigation and there have been no arrests. "Dr. Maar was clearly a beloved member of the community and we are doing all we can to bring his killers to justice," said Amanda Goings, Public Information Officer for the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office. "There may be a time further down the road where we ask for help from our media partners and the public, but we're just not quite there yet."

It was the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and Dr. Marr, who was 61, was at the cabin near Brownsburg preparing for a large family celebration the next day.

Although police have not released specifics about the murder, his obituary said "he died defending his family from an act of senseless violence. He confronted the armed attackers and sacrificed his life to save the love of his life," the obituary said, referring to his wife Deborah.

Dr. Maar had three children. He was with OrthoIndy and worked on the Indianapolis north side and Fishers. The OrthoIndy website said Maar graduated from DePauw University and the IU School of Medicine. His specialties were listed as hip replacements and knee replacements.
