Philip Barbour grads selected as Chamber Scholars

Roger Bolton president of the Barbour County Community Foundation, presented academic scholarships recently on behalf of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce to recent Philip Barbour High School graduates Izabella Blair Hubbard, center, and Olivia Marie Zinn. Bolton is the dealer at Town & Country Chrysler, Dodge, Ram in Belington.

Hubbard is the daughter of Josh and Sherry Hubbard of Arden. She is enrolled at West Virginia University where she will major in biology with the intent of becoming a dentist. She graduated from Philip Barbour High School summa cum laude, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and was the winner of the Young Writers Contest.

Hubbard was a member at large of the Student Council, a member of the track team and played varsity soccer. She currently volunteers for Boxes with a Purpose and works at Molly’s Hand Dipped Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street in Philippi. She is a member of the People’s Chapel Church and a volunteer with Community Cleanup.

Zinn, the daughter of Olive Zinn and a resident of Moatsville, is enrolled at Bethany College where she plans to major in communications and public relations with a minor in Spanish. She was vice president of the Student Council at Philip Barbour, editor of the Yearbook and an actress in the school theatre.

Zinn graduated summa cum laude and won first place in the Poetry Out Loud contest. Outside of school, she was a member of Community Theater and a semi-finalist as a Jovan It-Girl, a formal dress company in Atlanta, Georgia. She is employed at Molly’s Iced Cream Parlor and attends the Barbour Church of Christ in Belington.
