The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, C4, 8pm

IF you want proof that Bake Off is still a national institution, just look at some of the big names taking part in this celebrity series. The first episode sees actor John Lithgow, comedian Jon Richardson, Paralympian Hannah Cockroft and funny man Russell Brand take on three challenges. They have to make brownies, tackle a handful of a technical challenge and create a three-dimensional biscuit. Presenters Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding guide them through the assorted tasks and Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood pass judgment on their baking skills.

Shetland, BBC1, 9pm

THIS enduring series shows little sign of outstaying its welcome, with the latest offering no exception. Having heard of the traumatic events in Glasgow, an angry Duncan confronts Jimmy over his fears for Cassie’s safety. Although shaken, Cassie seems pleased that Jimmy has trusted her with the truth. Now sure that Zezi is still being held on the island, Perez and Sandy pay Morag Dunwoody a visit in an attempt to extract further information. The cast includes Douglas Henshall and Mark Bonnar.

Derry Girls, C4, 9.15pm

THE first series was a big hit early last year, becoming Channel 4’s biggest new comedy since 2004. And the new run will feature the star of one of the channel’s most successful sitcoms, as Father Ted’s Ardal O’Hanlon joins the cast as Eamonn, described as the middle-aged mummy’s boy of the Quinn-McCool extended family. However, it will still be the girls taking centre stage as they negotiate the usual teen problems of parents, parties and romance against the backdrop of the Northern Irish peace process.
