A scary slate of Halloween fun set for Sandusky County

The Downtown Fremont Market will host "Harvest Happenings" on Saturday, which will again include the Clydesdale Parade and more.

SANDUSKY COUNTY - The Halloween season is kicks off this week across the county. 

Towns have announced parades, trick-or-treat, trunk-or-treat, home decorating and pumpkin decorating contests. Here's a look at what you can expect.

Trick-or-treat dates

The Sandusky County Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Trick-or-Treat for the following communities.

Bellevue, 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26.

Clyde, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26.

Green Springs, 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27.

Fremont, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

Gibsonburg, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

Lindsey, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 (rain date, 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31).

Woodville, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Harvest Happenings in Fremont

Downtown Fremont Inc. will host the Farmers Market and Harvest Happenings Events on Front Street from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday.  

  • South Creek Clydesdales will set up at 9 a.m. with the Clydesdale Parade at 11 a.m.
  • The Haunted Hydro Costume Parade is at 10:30 a.m. Meet in the Brady parking lot to parade to The Strand for the adult and kid costume contest. Judging starts at 11 a.m. 
  • A pumpkin decoration contest for carved and uncarved pumpkins is set for noon at Garrison and Front Streets. All pumpkins should be decorated at home and dropped off by 9 a.m. No registration needed. Prizes awarded. 
  • The market will include pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, face painting, community coloring page and Chris Fry, the Chalk Goblin, will be creating interactive sidewalk chalk drawings.
  • Trick or treat downtown businesses and vendors will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Haunted Hydro celebrates 30th year

The Fremont park at 1333 Tiffin St. will be open 7 to 11:30 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 25, 26 and Nov. 1 and 2, as well as from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27. It will also be open Halloween night. Sandusky County Fall Family Fest

The Sandusky County Fairgrounds in Fremont will host a three-day camping weekend, Friday through Sunday. Events are open to the public. Call the main office for reservations at 419-332-5604.

  • Friday is music and a dodgeball tournament, plus Ohio State University Tailgate Party.
  • Saturday includes kids activities and crafts, kids tractor pull, trick or treat, costume judging, chili cook off, music and corn hole tournament.
  • Sunday is the fall demo derby at 2 p.m.with a $35 entry fee. Grandstand admission is $7 and concessions are available.

Halloween Fun in Clyde

The Clyde Halloween Parade will be 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Trick or Treat will follow at 5:30. The parade begins at Clyde Elementary School and continues to Duane Street, ending at the city parking lot.

  • Costume judging will be at 3:30 p.m. at Clyde Elementary School. Arrive at 3:10 p.m. Age categories are infant to 2; ages 3 and 4; ages 5 to 7; ages 8 and nine; ages 10 to 12; and ages 13 and older. Other categories include children's and family groups.Costumed entries may walk in the parade.
  • Float judging at the school begins at 3 p.m. Parade entries: Deadline for parade entries is Oct. 22 to be eligible for judging. There is no entry fee. Cash prizes for floats are $75, $50, $40 and $30.
  • Home decorating contest: Deadline for submitting home decorating contest forms is Oct. 19. The decorating contest is open to residents or business in the Clyde-Green Springs School District. Decorations must be completed no later than Oct. 20. Judging will be done Oct. 21 or 22. Prizes are first, $50; second, $35 and third, $25.

Trick or Treat at the museum, parade

  • The Bellevue Halloween Parade starts at Central Park at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and ends at the Mad River and NKP Museum.
  • An annual tradition in Bellevue is the Trick or Treat at the Mad River and NKP Museum, 253 Southwest St. Come in costume from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 and line up to walk through the railroad museum garnering candy and scares along the way. Stations are manned by area businesses and groups. Admission is free.

Creatures and Candy at White Star Park

Visit White Star Park in Gibsonburg for trick or treat in the campgrounds from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 26. Park staff will also share nature facts along the way.

Fremont Rec to host trunk or treat

From 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 26, the Fremont Park and Recreation will host its 3rd Annual Trunk-or-treat at 600 St. Joseph St. There will be carnival games, bounce houses and more. To register your truck, email cbhischoff@fremontohio.org.

Green Springs Halloween Parade

The Green Springs Fire Department will again host costume judging and a Halloween Parade on Oct. 27.

  • Costume judging will be at the Catherine Street fire station at 4:30 p.m.
  • The Halloween Parade will be at 5 p.m., beginning at the fire station, traveling to Broadway and returning to the fire station for awards, cider and donuts. Trick or treat follows at 6 p.m.

Family fun at Spiegel Grove

A free family fun night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 will be held at Spiegel Grove, the grounds of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont. Pumpkin decorating, face-painting, games for kids and a campfire with smores and other refreshments will be available. 

  • Eschleman Fruit Farm of Clyde will sell apples and cider.
  • South Creek Clydesdales will offer horse-drawn trolley rides for $3 per rider. Cash only. Horse-drawn trolley rides are 7:30 to 9 p.m
  • At 7:30 p.m., Spirit Stories of Spiegel Grove begins with a lantern tour of the grounds, ghost stories included.Ticket required. Tickets for Spirit Stories at Spiegel Grove are $10 for Hayes Presidential members and $15 for non-members. Lantern tours depart at 7:30, 8, 8:30 and 9 p.m.
  • Two special tents will be set up — a staff member will discuss the macabre traditions of the Victorian era in one, and in another a staff member will discuss monsters and beasts such as  Bigfoot, Lake Erie’s South Bass Bessie, the Dogman of Defiance and more. This talk will give a preview of some of the stories that will be covered in Hayes Presidential’s upcoming exhibit, “Myths and Legends,” which will open in 2020.
  • The evening concludes with a scary story by local historian Mike Gilbert at the camp fire.
