In what is being seen as a sign of cordial inter-state relations between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after more than five years of bifurcation, the YSRCP government on Wednesday began the process of handing over office blocks under its control in the Secretariat located in Hyderabad.
Officials from the Andhra Pradesh government wrote to the Telangana government's General Administration Department (GAD) and said that they were handing over the North H and K Blocks in the Secretariat.
This development comes a day after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that a new Secretariat complex would be built for the state at the existing premises in Hyderabad, as the Andhra Pradesh government had decided to hand over the buildings.
According to media reports, the Telangana government has agreed to give the Andhra Pradesh Government the Hermitage office complex and the CID office in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have also agreed to hold talks to solve all outstanding issues with regard to distribution of waters of Godavari and Krishna rivers.
KCR said a delegation of top irrigation officials of Andhra will visit Hyderabad on June 27 or 28 for first round of talks.
In the last five years, there was more hostility than cordiality between the TRS government in Telangana, carved out of Andhra Pradesh, and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) dispensation in Andhra Pradesh, due to political reasons.
The Governor, common to both the states, arranged a couple of meetings with the chief ministers and subsequently a three-member ministers group was formed on each side to resolve the issues but no headway was made.
But now, the YSRCP government headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy has begun with the advantage of having a non-confrontationist, if not friendly, relationship with both the TRS government and the Centre, generating hope of ending the impasse.
