The South West Monsoons have arrived on the western peninsular coast, even if delayed by a week, but Chennai and its neighbourhoods on the eastern peninsular coast of India are in for extreme temperatures for the next two days.

A weather bulletin issued by Regional Meteorological Centre predicts that heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets over Tamil Nadu over the next two days. Tiruvallur, Chennai, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirapalli, Perambalur and Villupuram districts are expected to sizzle under heat wave conditions until June 12.

The bulletin has also issued an advisory warning for the public to not expose themselves to direct sunlight between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm on the said dates to avoid sunstroke. In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 40 and 30 degree Celsius respectively for the next 48 hours.

As of 12 noon on June 11, Chennai has recorded 39.2 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds reaching between 30-40 Kmph wind speed and lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu for the next two days. Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Salem, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar Districts will benefit from thunderstorms that are likely to prevail until June 12.

As of June 11, Pechiparai and Suralacode in Kanyakumari district have recorded the highest amount of rainfall with 10 cms each in the state. The rainfall experienced in Kanyakumari,  Tirunelveli, Theni and Nilgiris districts is called spillover rains from the SW Monsoons and the formation of the Vayu cyclone.

Tamil Nadu Weatherman Pradeep John also predicts that Tiruppur, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Namakkal and Salem regions will experience good winds over the next couple of days.
