ANOTHER 7 people have died in the North-East and North Yorkshire after they tested positive for coronavirus.

Figures published on Friday afternoon revealed a total of 1,606 people had now died in our region's hospitals following a diagnosis of Covid-19.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 149 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,383.

"Patients were aged between 35 and 101 years old. 11 of the 149 patients (aged 70 and 95) had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."

The total number of patient deaths recorded by each trust as of 5pm on Thursday, May 28 are: 

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust – 229 was 228

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 129 no change

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 190 was 186 

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – 116 was 115

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust –  229 was 228 

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - 318 no change

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 112 no change

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 205 no change

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust –  64 no change

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change
