PLANS for a housing development made up of wheelchair-accessible bungalows has been put forward.
County Durham Housing Group has submitted plans for 17 two and three bedroom bungalows in Newton Hall, Durham.
If approved, the homes would be built on land to the north of St Godric’s Close.
The proposals were welcomed by Newton Hall councillors, who worked with the housing group on the proposals during a consultation period last summer, when plans to put larger homes, aimed at families, on the site were dropped.
Cllr Amanda Hopgood said: “This development will not only help disabled and elderly local residents, it will also future proof these properties in case tenants need adaptations in the future.”
The homes would be accessed via a new road from St Godric’s Close.
