DURHAM’S celebrations for St Cuthbert’s Day will include a special market of regional food and drink specialists in the cloister of Durham Cathedral on Saturday.

Durham Markets managing director Colin Wilkes said: “Our traders love the setting of the cathedral cloister, and for visitors it’s the ideal opportunity to discover some of the region’s finest food and drink producers, as part of a day full of events at Durham Cathedral.

“There are familiar and new faces at Saturday’s market, and they’re all specialists in what they produce, so we recommend shoppers take the opportunity to chat with the producers and find out about the food and drink on offer. There’s a lot of knowledge and passion in the produce available at Saturday’s market.”

Visitors to the market will be able to buy locally produced honey, cheeses, sausages, scotch eggs, cakes and desserts, sauces and spice packs, homemade jams, craft beers and more.

As well as the market, there are a number of events taking place in the city as part of the celebrations.

The annual St Cuthbert’s walk from Chester-le-Street to Durham will arrive at the Shrine of St Cuthbert at 2.10pm. During the day, there will be free Cathedral Tours and storytelling for children with Adam Bushnell, and a Sung Eucharist at 5.15pm.
