Post 17 closes out Omaha trip with 18-1 victory

OMAHA, Neb. — Watertown Post 17 closed out a weekend trip to Omaha by beating Creighton Prep II 18-1 in an American Legion baseball game on Saturday.

Post 17 (10-10 on the season) closed out play in the three-day event with a 1-3 record.

Watertown had five-run outbursts in the second, third and fourth innings to finished off the game in five innings.

Post 17’s 13-hit attack included Peyton Johnston’s 4-for-5 performance with a double and four runs scored. Nick Geffre, who doubled, and Jacob Tisher each had two hits. Mason Morris tripled and drove in four runs and Nathan Gonnelly homered and drove in three.

Parker Schmidt and Evan Falconer contributed two RBIs apiece for Watertown. Kale Stevenson tossed a two-hitter for the victory.

Post 17 is scheduled to host Renner in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at Watertown Stadium. A tripleheader was originally scheduled but Fargo (N.D.) dropped out.

Junior Legion

The Watertown Junior Legion notched 11-8 and 9-8 victories over Milbank in a doubleheader Sunday at Watertown Stadium.

Mason Lloyd tallied three hits, including two doubles, and joined Connor Hanson and Ben Althoff with two RBIs apiece to lead Wartertown in the opener. Braedon Zaug earned the victory and Cael Sutton notched the save.

Cole Swenson had two hits and Micah Dietmeier doubled for Milbank.

In the second game, Sutton doubled and singled and drove in two runs for Watertown. Lloyd got the win and Hudson Block the save.

Karson Weber doubled and singled for Milbank. Swenson also added a double.

Watertown (6-10 on the season) is slated host Brookings in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Watertown Stadium.

Red Sox

ABERDEEN — The Watertown Red Sox suffered two close losses to Aberdeen on Friday in a Class AA 15-16 baseball doubleheader.

Aberdeen won the opener 11-9 and the second game 4-2.

Blair Boomsma tallied four hits, Aden Roth three and Andre Baumgart and Reese Stark each two for Watertown in the opener. Roth hit two doubles and Joe Wilbur one.

Lucas Larson, the first of four Red Sox pitchers, took the loss.

Aberden rallied to win the second game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 2-1 deficit.

Hayden Tvedt had two singles and Trevon Rawdon doubled for Watertown. Larson and Boomsma each added singles.

Stark went the distance in the loss for the Red Sox, who are scheduled to host Harrisburg at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Watertown Stadium.

White Sox

The Watertown White Sox went 1-2-1 over the weekend in the Sioux Empire Baseball Association’s 2019 Dakota Classic at Sioux Falls.

The White Sox (1-8-1 on the season) tied Tri-Valley 9-9 on Friday. Watertown also beat Harrisburg 13-2 and lost to Sioux Falls West 15-3 on Saturday before falling to Renner 15-7 on Sunday.

Dylon Rawdon, Owen Spartz and Karter Ramirez each had two hits for Watertown against Tri-Valley.

Carter Schmidt, Justin Remmers and Spartz had two hits apiece in the win over Harrisburg. Schmidt, who also went the distance in the victory, clubbed a double.

Peyton Buisker had two hits and Schmidt doubled in the loss to Sioux Falls West. Dylon Rawdon suffered the loss.

Rawdon and Schmidt each singled in Sunday’s loss to Renner. Ramirez took the loss.

The White Sox are slated to host Brandon Valley in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Foundation Fields.
