According to the news agency, the groom, Sawai Ram, told the police that the incident occurred when the procession was about to enter the Dugar village. He claimed that people belonging to the Rajput community had attacked the procession.

The report, quoting the groom, said that several people were injured in the attack.

Police Inspector Ajit Singh told ANI, “We recorded his statement on Sunday (10 February) and have registered a case under relevant sections against more than 12 people. The matter is being investigated. Action will be taken against the culprits.”

In April 2018, a Dalit groom was attacked for riding a horse in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. In Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj last year, Sanjay Jatav became the first Dalit groom in over 80 years to lead a marriage procession.
