A strong demand for virtually all breeds of sheep saw the Bluefaced Leicestersecure the top two prices of £15,000 and £12,000 at the Kelso Ram Sales.

Sale leader was a shearling ram from Mrs Obie Sharp's Newbigging Walls flock from Lauder, purchased by James Herdman, Alnwick; Derek Hall, Penicuik; Andrew Campbell, Lochgoilhead; John and Richard Wood, Tweedsmuir and Colin Dick, Peebles.

Selling at £12,000 was a Midlock shearling from the Wights, Midlock, Crawford, which was knocked down to John and Finlay Robertson, Beeches, West Calder and Malcolm Coubrough, Hartside, Lamington.

Texels topped the averages league with 766 shearling rams selling at £975, led by top prices of £8500 twice for a shearling ram from Messrs Green's Greenall flock and another from John Elliott, Roxburgh Mains.

Suffolks peaked at £6000 for a ram lamb from Stewart Lathangie, Pyeston and Beltex sold to the same money for a shearling from Kevin Buckles and sons Jack and Tom, Buckles, Kirkby Stephen.

Crossing sheep hit a top of £3200 for a Durno from Ingram family from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Overall, 4191 rams sold to average £697.55 (+£16.03 for 199 fewer sold) with an 81.31% clearance.
