Scottish Borders couple who offered £50k salary for nanny at haunted house flooded with HUNDREDS of applications
The pair, from Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, received at least 150 formal applications in 24 hours with interest from dozens of other brave childminders
A FAMILY who offered a £50,000 salary for a new nanny to stay at their haunted house have been inundated with nearly 200 applications.
We told yesterday how five babysitters quit in the last year after they reported spooky sights and sounds at the couple’s remote home near Jedburgh, Roxburghshire.
They advertised for a new live-in babysitter to look after their two kids aged five and seven using the website childcare.co.uk.
And they’ve now received at least 150 formal applications in 24 hours with interest from dozens of other brave childminders who say they’re not afraid of ghosts - as well as around 50 other queries.
A source said: “They’re really pleased to have so many different candidates to choose from to fill the vacancy.”
The parents, who want to remain anonymous, decided to stump up the huge wage - which is more than double the £24,000-average for the profession - as an incentive to applicants.
It came after a string of terrified employees fled their historic property after hearing strange noises, seeing furniture moving and glass smashing in other rooms.

As well as the bumper pay packet, the successful candidate will have their own private living quarters with free room and board.
But it means spending long periods of time alone at the haunted house as the couple both work away for up to four nights a week.
The ad said: “We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house, but we’re happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it’s important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.”
A spokeswoman for childcare.co.uk said: “The response to the family searching for a nanny in the Scottish Borders has been overwhelming.
“They’ve received hundreds of applications, which is brilliant because I’m sure there will be a suitable nanny for the family amongst them.
“The family have said that the majority of candidates do not seem bothered by the supernatural reports in the house - that may or may not have something to do with the generous salary.”
