But the pair — understood to be from Mearns, Aberdeenshire — waited a fortnight to claim the second biggest ever Scottish win.

Ahead of today’s unveiling an insider branded the winnings “incredible”.

They added: “It is a life changing sum of money.

“I bet they can’t believe their luck. They are going to be able to live the high life now.”

Lotto bosses Camelot have confirmed the £57,975,367 jackpot winners are a retired man and his wife.

It is understood she works in Montrose.

The couple had the only winning ticket in the July 10 draw, matching the numbers 3, 8, 26, 33, 45 and Lucky Stars 7 and 10.

It’s believed they only contacted Camelot last week and spent the time since deciding whether to go public with their whopping payout.

Andy Carter, of the National Lottery, said: “What an amazing win.

"This ranks at No14 in the list of the biggest ever National Lottery winners.

“We look forward to helping them begin to enjoy their win.”

The minted pair could now buy 29 McLaren P1 supercars at £1.98million a pop, or a £46million Bombardier Global 6000 private jet with some change to spare.

The biggest Scots lotto winners are Colin Weir, 71, and wife Christine, 62.

The couple from Largs, Ayrshire, scooped over £161million in 2011.

David and Carol Martin, of Hawick in Roxburghshire, have now been bumped to third in the all-time list.

The pair, both 56, banked a £33million windfall in January 2016.
