A THUG who battered a man to death as he walked home from a fundraiser has been jailed for life.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told Mark had been at an event in the city’s Longstone area to raise cash for the family of a pal who died.

On his way home the 44-year-old, who was a carer for his mum, tried to stop a confrontation.

He was heard saying: “Leave them alone. They are only young.”

He was then repeatedly punched and kicked.

Allan, 24, was found guilty of murdering Mark on October 22 last year.

Co-accused Aiden Welsh, 25 had a not proven verdict returned, while Liam Tierney, 21, was acquitted.

Allan was given a minimum of 12 years.
