She is now begging the Church to resolve the case without going to court as the ordeal of a trial is making her ill.

The Catholic church is being accused of dragging their heels over the entire process which has put her 'life on hold'.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail Teresa said she was raped by the Priest 40 times and said: "The thought of having to go to court is horrific and is making me ill.

"It's two years now since the Church first advised me to seek legal advice and I am begging them to deal with the case.

“The months and years just seem to tick on. It’s absolutely shocking and I don’t know how they manage to get away with it

“Trying to deal with their insurers is nigh-on impossible. Getting information is difficult and it’s having a detrimental effect on my health.

“I have been waiting and waiting and have no idea why the Church are not dealing with it. My life is on hold.”

Teresa, 51, said: “I believe there are many more victims of him.

"While I know how difficult it is, I would urge them to come forward.”

Teresa said Nugent targeted her when she was 11. She claims Nugent – who died of a heart attack in 2010, aged 66 – subjected her to two years of sexual abuse before raping her after her 13th birthday.

"Nugent was priest at St Patrick’s Church in Glasgow’s Anderston but was removed after the murder of Polish student Angelika in 2006. Her body was found under the church’s floorboards after she was murdered by serial killer Peter Tobin.

Archbishop Philip Tartaglia has apologised to Teresa.

The Sunday Mail also reported that The Archdiocese of Glasgow said: “We are committed to responding pastorally to those who report abuse. We also facilitate and, in many cases, fund support for survivors, including counselling.

“The Archdiocese cannot comment on specific cases where the legal process is under way.”
