The video appears to show players wearing club shirts as they sing along to Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline.

And as the chorus hits, somebody appears to chant the sectarian slur.

The video was uploaded on to Austin's Instagram stories with the caption across the screen saying "Aberdeen... away."

The clip then appeared on a Twitter user's feed but has since been deleted.

Fans speculated on social media that the players were on a Christmas night out.

And the boss at Scotland's leading anti-sectarianism charity has condemned the video - calling for a club probe.

Dave Scott, Director of Nil by Mouth, said: "What an utterly dismal way to behave.

"The club now need to investigate this and take action to address this person’s attitudes immediately - regardless of who the player or official is and their level of importance to the team."

Caley Thistle drew with Championship rivals Dundee United 1 - 1 yesterday in the league clash at Caledonian Stadium.

A spokesperson for the club confirmed the post had been removed immediately and the matter would be looked into.

We told you in October how Rangers legend Ian Durrant apologised after a video of him saying "f*** the Pope" at a Light Blues dinner emerged.

The 51-year-old former footballer insisted he didn't mean to offend anyone with his comment at the event - which was full of Gers fans.

The ex-midfielder is claimed to have made the vile sectarian slur at a football legends dinner at Bothwell Bridge Hotel on October 12.

In the apology he said: “I’d like to apologise for my comment at a recent Sportsman’s Dinner event in Lanarkshire. I meant to cause no offence to anyone."

We told you last year how a vile sign spotted at a star-studded darts event in Glasgow was investigated by police.

One punter was seen waving a banner which read “f**k the Pope” as players headed out for a match.

The sign was shoved in front of Australian darts ace Simon Whitlock and broadcast live on ITV4.

Commentators at the event in the Braehead Arena were heard apologising after the banner appeared.
