Tributes flood in for biker George ‘Geordie’ Smith who died in horror Stirlingshire smash as his son clings to life in hospital

BIKERS paid have paid tribute to a rider killed in a fatal collision - which also badly injured his son - near a "tricky" junction in Dunipace.

He was named by bikers' group Picts MCC as George Smith - known as Geordie - from Stirling.

His pillion passenger, who was fighting for his life today, was named as his 21-year old son Darren.

The accident took place in Stirling Street, Dunipace around 6.05pm on Monday and involved Mr Smith's Yamaha XVS motorbike, travelling north, and a Saab 9-3, turning out of Ingleston Avenue.

Police said: "The 58-year-old male rider of the motorbike was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The 21-year-old male pillion passenger was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with serious injuries."

The road was closed in both directions until around 12.45am today while collision investigations took place.

Picts MCC spokesman Ron Sandy Macpherson said on Facebook: "It is with great sadness PICTS MCC have to tell all biker brotherhood that we have lost one of are own... RIP George Smith truly will be missed."

And the group's Connor Lee Thomassen said: "Tough time for the picts at the minute.

"We lost our brother George and are thoughts and love are with his family... gonna miss you geordie bro ride hard and ride free. A true brother through club not blood."

Liam Urquhart added: "I am so sorry for you guys , Geordie was one of a kind and most generous and kindest person I've ever met..So thankful I got to call him my friend ..GBNF All ways in our hearts George."

A friend of Mr Smith, Sami Stewart, posted: "Father n Son so sad Rest easy Geordie an keep fightin Darren thots with family an many many friends stay strong."

One regular user of the road said: "It's a dreadful bit of road, with two roads coming onto the main road just by the zebra crossing at the top of the hill in Dunipace - very tricky."

Inspector Andrew Thomson of Forth Valley's Road Policing Unit said: "Our sincere condolences are with the family of the man who lost his life, and an investigation into this collision remains underway.

"I want to thank the members of the public who came to the man's aid and offered their help to those involved and the emergency services.

"Anyone who may have witnessed this and has not yet spoken to officers, including those who may have dashcam footage of this or either of the vehicles travelling in the area, is urged to get in touch."
