A LORRY driver's shoes were chucked in bushes by a fellow trucker during a bizarre fight in the middle of a road.

The fuming pair sparked a roadside rammy after one performed a risky overtaking manoeuvre on the A75 near Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire on Wednesday morning.

Other drivers tried to break up the fight as traffic came to a standstill on the busy Cairnryan Port ferry route, and called in cops.

During a three-minute clip, one lorry driver can be seen overtaking the other on double white lines along the 40mph stretch.

The man - driving a J van Vliet truck - then stops in the middle of the road, blocking a Ford Focus and a junction entrance.

The driver of the other lorry, who works for Dumfries-shire company D & W Agri, then jumps out of his cab and confronts him.

Sharing footage of the bizarre incident on social media, D & W Agri said: "Well today this happened to one of our drivers and vehicles, first I would like to thank the driver in question for not hitting back in defensive.

"If this is the way Europe wants to drive in our country, then March 29th can’t come quick enough."

The video has already been viewed almost 250,000 times.

Cops say enquiries are ongoing.

The Dutch driver kept shouting 'f*** off you Scottish c***'."

Anthony Williamson, D and W Agri Director

The driver of the rival HGV, Jos van der Blom, has defended his driving - claiming he only performed the risky overtaking stunt because a car was “really close to his back”.

And he has accused the D&W Agri worker of throwing a pair of his shoes in bushes and punching him in the face.

Replying to the original dashcam footage, he fumed: “What you can’t see on the dashcam is that the driver from D & W Agri stepped on purpose on the gas pedal when he saw the lanes were going from two to one.

“I was already at the half of his trailer, and on the back of my trailer was a car that was really close on my back so I didn’t dare to brake firm to avoid an accident.

“The driver of Agri should have seen this but didn’t anticipate to this matter.

“When we stopped and the driver went to me, he was screaming and shouting at me.

“I was really calm and I tried to explain two times what really happened at the back of my trailer and that I had made the decision that it was the most safe to pass him instead of braking firmly.

“He didn’t listen and was still giving me bad names. Than he opened my door, threw my shoes in the bushes, grabbed me by my neck and threw me against my trailer and punched me in the face.

“I didn’t defend myself because I am not a fighter. I believe in peace and normal convo with anybody.

D&W Agri confirmed their driver did chuck away the shoes, but rubbished any claims of violence.

He threw my shoes in the bushes and grabbed me by the neck."

Jos van der Blom, J van Vliet driver

Speaking today, the company's director Anthony Williamson said: "My driver never swung for the other guy once.

"The other driver tried to swing for him four or five times, but he only pushed him away in defence.

"The Dutch driver kept shouting 'f*** off you Scottish c***'. But our guy did throw away his shoes, you just can't see it clearly in the footage. "

And social media users have backed the Scots company, blasting Mr Van der Blom's explanation.

One Facebook user said: "Bull****. Dangerous driving. What was your excuse for then overtaking the Ford Focus in front of the D&W driver as well?"

Paul Hephard added: "Learn how to drive. Don't overtake when there is not room to.

"Hope you get banned from driving in the UK for your aggressive driving and physical assault. T**t."

Jim Nichol wrote: "The A75 only becomes dangerous when people like you drive along it with no respect for other road users who are obeying the law."

Meanwhile, Karen Sutherland said: "You should be disgraced at your actions and think yourself lucky no one was injured in your careless actions.

"As for the other lorry driver he should get a f****** medal for his actions."

But not everyone agrees the D&W Agri employee was completely blameless.

Jan Livingstone said: "The guy driving the truck that overtook him was a complete muppet but your driver got out and approached him?

"Why? To tell him off? Sorry but he's in the wrong. That's what we have police for."

Graham Fraser wrote: "D&W Agri driver putting himself in a dodgy situation by getting out to challenge, potential for both drivers getting arrested at the roadside here.

"No collision, no challenge needed."

A police spokesman said: “Police at Castle Douglas are appealing for witnesses following a fight on the A75 near the Ram hill at Castle Douglas.

“The incident occurred around 11:30 AM this morning (Wednesday 6th Feb) and involved the drivers of two HGVs.

“We believe a number of vehicles waiting in a line of traffic will have seen the drivers fighting and are particularly keen to speak to the man who spoke to police officers when they initial arrived but left before giving his details.

Anyone that can help should contact Police Scotland quoting incident 1271 of 6th Feb.

J van Vliet have been approached for comment.
