BRITAIN's temperature will plummet as SNOW is set to blanket the UK this week with -2C Arctic blast following a 15C 'Spanish plume'.

The summer-like weather pattern will be short-lived but will bring blue skies and sunshine to Britain this week as temperatures will creep up to 15C this weekend.

Rain will hit parts this weekend as the weather forecast changes

The nation has been bathing in warmer weather conditions following chilly conditions earlier this month.

But the mercury is set to plummet again next week - with northern parts of the country bracing for thermometers to hit 0C.

Met Office forecaster Richard Miles said: "We could well see some snow by the end of February.

"Temperatures could go as low as zero to two degrees next week, and I'd expect to see a lot of frost if that happens.

"Weakening fronts could also bring showers on Sunday and Monday.

"After that it could be mostly dry with some sunny spells, but temperatures won't be quite as warm.

"There's a lot of fog around today, especially in the South East - but that should clear up by the end of the day."

A Yellow weather warning was in place warning of slow journey times yesterday due to low visibility along the English Channel coast from Kent to Devon.

But warm sunshine burned it away by mid-morning - and the area will see the toastiest temperatures in the country as the mercury hits the mid-teens.

Wall-to-wall sunshine will be enjoyed by millions of Brits as they clock off for the weekend.

FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL FOLLOW SUNNY SPANISH SKIES

But there will be slightly cloudier skies in Northern Ireland and Western Scotland today - although temperatures will still be above average for the time of year.

A forecast from Meteogroup UK said: "It will be dry and sunny in the morning for many, although there will be a few early mist and fog patches.

"Through the day, it will become increasingly cloudy in the west with patchy rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"It will remain sunny in England and Wales. Moderate south-westerly winds."

And the Met Office said: "Some dense fog patches early on, clearing through the morning.

"Otherwise a sunny day for most, with mild temperatures.

"The exception is the north and west where it will turn windier through the day, with more cloud into the afternoon."

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: "Snow over the next month isn't looking that likely. Although our long-range forecast sees colder spells through March.

"If we do see any snow it will be on high ground in the north. Snow further south isn't looking as likely.

"There's a small chance of snowy weather coming from the east, like the 'Beast from the East' we've seen in the past."
