Sleeping male rape victim only found out about Christmas Eve Inverness attack when friend told him she’d seen video footage

The victim had no recollection of the predatory attack after passing out and was horrified to learn Joshua Hunter, 24, had filmed it

A MALE rape victim only found out about the sexual assault when a pal told him she had seen a video of the attack.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard the man was left horrified when he discovered Joshua Hunter, 24, had filmed the sordid attack on him, which he had no re-collection of.

The victim had met Hunter in a bar in Inverness on Christmas Eve, 2015 and went back to his home. The court was told he only recalled a naked male crotch being near his head but then passed out.

Next morning he woke and got dressed and made his way home where his mother pointed out that his jumper was on back to front.

Advocate depute Derick Nelson told the court: “He spent the rest of Christmas Day in his room, worrying about what had happened the previous night.”

On Boxing Day a group of women friends were socialising in the city when one of them showed the sick footage to the others.

A member of the group then sent the victim a message asking what had occurred between him and Hunter and he replied that nothing and that they only shared a taxi. She then told him she had seen the sex video.

The man contacted Hunter, a hairdresser, and asked him to delete the video to which he responded “Huh”. The victim then contacted police.

Hunter’s home was searched by officers who recovered his iPhone. Footage was later found of the victim lying sleeping while Hunter carried out an oral sex act on him.

Yesterday he admitted assaulting and raping the man while he was intoxicated with alcohol and asleep and incapable of giving or withholding consent.

Judge Lord Pentland, told Hunter he had pled guilty to “a serious sexual offence”. He called for a background report to be prepared on Hunter and put him on the sex offenders’ register ahead of sentencing next month.

The court heard Hunter was sentenced four years and four months imprisonment for a catalogue of crimes last year after he encouraged victims to take explicit pictures and videos and send them to him using a false female profile.

He then extorted cash from some of the men under threat of publishing the material on social media or distributing it to family and friends.

Hunter, of Dunfermline, Fife gained more than £1700 from the calculating scheme and attempted to extort a further £4000 from one man during a crime spree spanning more than two years.

He began by targeting a boy in 2015, beginning when the victim was aged 12, and pretended to be a female and induced the child to perform sex acts on himself and record them and send them to him. Hunter then went on to look for men as online targets.

When police seized phones, sim cards and a computer from his former home in Inverness they also recovered indecent images of children.

He admitted a total of 13 charges committed in Invernessshire, Inverness, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Lanarkshire between January 1 in 2015 and May 1 2017.
