‘Armed police’ spotted outside Edinburgh sports centre as man rushed to hospital following assault

A MAN has been rushed to hospital following an assault at an Edinburgh sports centre as 'armed cops' swooped.

Police confirmed their attendance at the Jack Kane on Niddrie Mains Road earlier this evening.

A man was attacked during the incident.

He was transferred to hospital.

It is understood the surrounding area was taped off by police.

However locals reported seeing armed officers in a social media post which emerged on Facebook.

One eyewitness said: "Entrance to Jack Kane is closed, 4-5 police units and armed police around it and police tape in place...not sure why though!"

A spokesman for the force said: "About 5.45pm on Sunday June 9 police attended Niddrie Mains Road in Edinburgh to reports of an adult male assaulted there.

"The male was taken to hospital for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

"If anyone has any information to this incident. Please contact police on 101 quoting incident number 3277 of the June 9."
