ScotRail’s Class 385 train beats Lamborghini in Edinburgh to Glasgow race

SCOTRAIL bosses put their Edinburgh to Glasgow travel time promise to the test - by racing a train against a car.

The rail operators put together the "42-minute challenge" to see who would triumph - one of their Class 385 Express or a flash Lamborghini.

The two set off from the capital around 9am - with Clyde 1 offering punters updates throughout the morning.

Bosses at the rail operator took to Twitter to let the public know about the race.

And it's based on promises that the journey time between Edinburgh and Glasgow would be 42 minutes.

"The #42minutechallenge wouldn't be possible without that hard work that's been done over the last few years as part of the Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Programme".

Bosses were quick to highlight new stats from the improvement works between Scotland's two biggest cities.

And the train came out on top - with presenter Amber Livingstone posing at Queen Street station.

Among the changes are three redeveloped stations, a new electric depot at Millerhill and 30% increase in capacity by this year.

We told you last month how ScotRail staff apologised to customers nearly 1,000 times in one month on Twitter — as it emerged the firm paid more than £1million in compensation last year.

The train operator said the word “sorry” in 869 replies to furious travellers after being savaged on social media over their poor performance.

In another 87 tweets, the account used “apologies” in a bid to calm seething passengers.
